November 2 (Renewables Now) - Germany-based Soventix GmbH announced on Tuesday it has installed a 998.4-kWp photovoltaic (PV) system in South Africa.
The array was developed by subsidiary Soventix SA to supplement the needs of the local head office of Siemens AG (ETR:SIE). The 3,072 solar modules system was connected to the microgrid using inverters supplied by SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SEDG).
Located in Midrand, Johannesburg, the solar array comprises an east-west ballast rooftop mount and a Schletter B2 carport mount. The carport uses glass-glass-modules and the east-west-system features standard framed modules, Soventix stated in its press release.
Integrated with Siemens' SICAM microgrid controller and SIESTORAGE battery system, the PV facility is expected to generate around 1.7 GWh in its first year of operations.
Both German companies plan to work together on similar projects in Africa, Soventix noted.
