Parking lot photovoltaics are already mandatory in Baden-Württemberg.Is it also a trend to gain more space for power generation? In this podcast with Franz Pöter and Tobias Maurus from the Solarcluster Baden-Württemberg, we discuss what a parking lot system can look like and how it can be operated economically.Photo: Energiedienst/ Clickcon GmbH, assembly: pv magazineSince the beginning of 2022, new parking spaces in Baden-Württemberg have had to be covered with photovoltaics. However, there are only a few practical examples.Only one company set up a funded pilot project prior to the introduction of the new legislation, intended to derive tips for future investors and operators.Due to rising electricity prices, however, many companies are now also interested in roofing parking spaces, regardless of the roof requirement.Be it to gain more space for power generation for self-sufficiency, as an offer for employees to charge electrically or as a visible sign of the green transformation. In this podcast, pv magazine editor Cornelia Lichner talks to Franz Pöter and Tobias Maurus from the Solarcluster Baden-Württemberg.The association has published a fact paper on photovoltaic parking spaces and is committed to establishing this business area. They discuss the reasonableness for builders of new parking spaces, economic business models and practical questions about load capacity, span and the protection of structures against accidents and vandalism. You can download the fact paper on photovoltaic parking spaces from the Solarcluster Baden-Württemberg additional effort for the building permit should be emphasized. The authorities are struggling with this new type of building. Is it a power generation machine or just a carport or a garage with increased fire protection requirements? Is it more of an open space system and are you responsible for it at all? Many boundary conditions have to be observed. Here is a small list: drainage, soil reports, neighbors' approval, underground lines and buildings, warfare agents....Another hurdle is bank financing.Even if the return calculation is positive and subsidies beckon, the bank remains skeptical and new questions have to be answered.Have the ownership of the property been clarified in the long term and how can loans be secured? How does all of this work out in tax terms?Solar parking lot shelters are ambitious projects.I would like to add two more points.Trees and greenery are becoming increasingly important for building owners.Trees provide shade, absorb heat, filter fine dust and promote well-being.A mix of trees and solar carports should be the goal. That's why you need a solar carport system that fits in and can handle shading.Ideally, a solar carport system only interferes slightly with the rainwater cycle. But no hurdles that cannot be solved.Especially against the background of the EU taxonomy, it is currently difficult to imagine that banks would shy away from financing PV systems if the client is solvent and the company to be implemented has the appropriate references and competence in the area. There is currently even transparent information on Google that gives cost estimates, e.g. here https://www.erdgas-suedwest.de/natuerlichzukunft/obligatory-carport-pv-unternehmen/ I therefore firmly believe in this sensible area expansion and in the topic
