Back in 2015, Marigay McKee departed her post as president of the Saks Fifth Avenue chain after only a short 15 months. But the powerful British businesswoman has since gone on to do big things in other arenas — she’s currently co-founder and a top executive at Fernbrook Capital Management, and a board member of famed automaker Aston Martin.
The veteran retail exec — she’s also held upper-level positions at Estée Lauder in Europe and is widely credited with revitalizing vaunted British department store Harrods — has also been busy flapping her real estate wings, having recently flipped her residence in the expensive Bird Streets neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The home’s new owner is David Stewart, a songwriter and record producer best known for writing and producing “Dynamite,” the 2020 hit single from South Korean boyband BTS that reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Stewart paid nearly $3.3 million for his new digs, about $500,000 more than McKee paid singer-songwriter Bruce Roberts for the place just last year.
Built in the late 1940s and designed by midcentury architect John Kewell, the modern two-story structure has been updated through the years, and rests on a petite hillside parcel tucked into the bend of a secluded and winding road. There’s no driveway out front, but the house includes a covered carport on one side and a single-car garage on the other.
A gated entryway leads inside, where three bedrooms and a matching number of baths are featured in just over 2,500 square feet of open-concept living space adorned throughout with blonde hardwood floors, white gallery-like walls and glass doors providing seamless indoor-outdoor environs.
Among the notable spaces: a movie theater, a sun-drenched living room with a fireplace and access to the outdoors, plus a large dining area that connects to a galley-style kitchen with stainless appliances and a breakfast nook. Upstairs, the owner’s retreat has French doors flowing outside, along with a walk-in closet and marble bath equipped with a soaking tub. Two additional ensuite bedrooms are on the premises, one of which is being used as an office.
Outside, the walled backyard is ringed by mature trees for privacy and shade. A freeform pool is flanked by a sundeck, and there are plenty of spots ideal for al fresco entertaining — all amid picturesque views of the surrounding hills.
